A plain-language summary of how Smartitude handles your information. It is not legal advice.
The short version
- Your course material and everything made from it is private to your account. We don't sell it or share it.
- To make study material, we send your document to our AI provider, Anthropic. Their terms for business customers say they don't use this data to train their models.
- You can delete anything you've uploaded, or your whole account, at any time.
What we collect
- Your email address, so we can send you login links and identify your account.
- The documents and photos you upload, and the study guides, flashcards and questions made from them.
- Your study history — which cards and questions you've reviewed, how you rated them and when they're next due. This is what lets the app know what to show you today.
- Your courses and exam dates, if you set them.
- Basic usage information and the technical logs our hosting provider keeps to run the site.
How we use it
- To run the service: log you in, make study material from what you upload, and schedule your revision.
- To reply to you if you get in touch.
- To understand how the product is used, so we can fix problems and improve it.
We don't use your material to train AI models, and we don't use your email for marketing without asking first.
Services that handle your data for us
- Supabase stores your account, your material and your study history, and handles logging in.
- Anthropic processes each document or photo you upload in order to produce the study material.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Resend delivers the emails we send you, such as login and password reset links.
- Sentry receives a report when something in the app goes wrong, so we find out about faults without waiting for someone to tell us.
These companies only process your data to provide their service to us.
What an error report contains
When something breaks, we send Sentry the error itself, the page you were on, and basic technical details about your browser. We have turned off the setting that would attach personal information, and we do not send the contents of your documents, your study material or your essays. Reports are kept for 90 days.
A note about photographs
When you upload a photo of handwritten notes, the image is sent to Anthropic to be read, and the text that comes back is what we store. Please don't photograph a page that has something private in the corner of it — a name, a patient detail, anything you wouldn't want read.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your material until you delete it. Deleting a study set removes it, and its review history, from your account. Deleting your account, from the menu in the app, permanently removes your account and everything in it. Copies may remain in our providers' backups for a short time before they are overwritten.
Security
Your data is sent over encrypted connections, and our database only lets each account read its own material. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't upload anything you aren't allowed to share with a service like ours.
Children
Smartitude isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let you know before they take effect.
